To mark its 40-year anniversary, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society has announced a ballot will be held on the 23rd of October 2023 to release its 40-year-old anniversary single malt whisky. Members of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society have from the 9th – 22nd of October to register their interest, after which a ballot will be drawn on the 23rd and held on the 24th of October.
As one of the oldest whiskies the club owns, this very special whisky has been drawn from Cask number 12.79 which was distilled in the birth year of the club, 1983. The whisky began its life in an ex-bourbon cask and then moved to a Spanish oloroso hogshead for the final five years of maturation.
“The key to it being refill was that it would be quite relaxed and complementary, adding another layer of complexity without being too intense for such an old, fragile whisky,” says Euan Campbell, head of whisky creation.
