At The Distillers’ One of One Charity Auction held on Thursday, 5th October in Edinburgh, a single bottle of Glenglassaugh’s Coalescence of the Coast, aged 55 years, sold for £37,500*, making it the highest-priced bottle of whisky ever sold for the Glenglassaugh brand.

The One of One Charity Auction, which supports disadvantaged children in Scotland, has been making headlines over the last few weeks after some of the auction’s donated whisky bottles fetched hefty sums at the auction. Most notably, a rare bottle of 68-year-old Glen Grant single malt single malt, called Visionary, sold at auction for £212,500, marking a new sale price record for the Glen Grant distillery. Furthermore, a rare whiskey (Bowmore STAC 55 Years Old) sold for just over half a million pounds in the very same auction.

The Glenglassaugh’s Coalescence of the Coast, aged 55 years, was crafted by Rachel Barrie, Master Blender at the Glenglassaugh Distillery, and made from rare Glenglassaugh whiskies filled in 1963, 1965, and 1967. The auction winner also received three miniature samples, one taken from each of the three casks used for the marriage.

Rachel Barrie commented:

“The elixir within this bespoke bottle of Glenglassaugh is a precise composition that captures Glenglassaugh at its quintessential peak, with seductive cassis, sublime mandarin peel, and soft aromatic sherry in a caress of silken oak. One sip awakens the senses with mesmerizing waves of luscious black cherry, ripe mango, and tropical flora carried on an endless ocean breeze. To taste Glenglassaugh Single Malt is to experience the evocative coastal influence of Sandend Bay.

“Now is such an exciting time for Glenglassaugh. We’re still riding the wave of the new portfolio launch, and we have so much to look forward to with some exquisite new releases of old and rare whisky that date back to the ’60s and ‘70s still to come. Watch this space.”

Housed in a custom glass decanter and bespoke-crafted wooden box, the flame ruby gold 55-year-old expression was created to celebrate the extraordinary character of Glenglassaugh after decades of coastal maturation.

The Distillers’ Charity itself is the philanthropic arm of The Worshipful Company of Distillers. The Charity was formed to make a difference to young people within Scotland, especially those within the distilled spirits trade, helping them to reach their full potential, improve their life chances, and make a positive contribution to their communities.

The total proceeds for the 2023 charity auction reached £1.8 million, with 90% of the proceeds going to the Youth Action Fund and 10% going to general charitable purposes.
